Background

HADEED's experience and success in the steel industry encouraged its investment in new facilities for the production of Flat Steel Products, including:
 
Hot rolled products
Cold rolled products
Galvanized products

 


The new Flat Products Facility (FPF) is located in Al-Jubail Industrial City, adjacent to the HADEED Long Products Complex. The FPF is comprised of:
 
A Direct Reduction Plant
A Steel Plant
A Hot Strip Mill
Finishing Facilities
A Cold Mill Complex
 

Production Process

• The FPF commenced commercial production in July 2000 with an annual production capacity of 800,000 tons.

• The plant is designed to accommodate future expansions that allow an annual production capacity of 2 million tons.

• The expansion plan includes the construction of:
- An Additional Direct Reduction Module
- An Electric Arc Furnace
- A Ladle Furnace
- A Steel Slab Casting Machine
- A Slab-reheating Furnace
- A Second Down Coiler
- An Additional Finishing Mill Stand
- A Hot Skin Pass Mill
 		  


The Flat Steel Products Facility

Direct Reduction (DR) Plant

• The DR Plant Module “D” employs the HYL3 process to convert iron ore into directly reduced iron (sponge iron).

• It is designed to produce 155 tons per hour of directly reduced iron (DRI) with 93% metallization and 1.8% carbon content.

• Normal production is expected to be 140 tons per hour, or over 1.1 million tons annually.

Steel Plant

• The Steel Plant converts sponge iron, ferrous scrap and other additives into steel slabs.

• The Steel Plant consists of:
- One Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) with 150 tons heat size
- A Ladle Furnace (LF)
- A Single Strand Slab Caster
 
• The EAF melts sponge iron and scrap into liquid steel, which is subsequently cast into 220mm thick slabs.


• The annual capacity of the EAF is over 0.9 million tons.


Hot Strip Mill & Finishing Facilities

• The Hot Strip Mill is a semi-continuous type and includes:
- A Reheating Furnace
- A Reversing Roughing Stand with Hydraulic Vertical Edger
- A Coil Box
- A Finishing Mill with 5 Stands Equipped with HAGC & CVC
- A Laminar Cooling Zone
- A Downcoiler
- Inspection Station
 


• The Hot Strip Finishing Facilities include:
- A Cut-to-Length Line
- A Slitting & Recoiling Line



Cold Mill Complex

• This complex includes:

- A Push Pickling Line
- A 4-high Cold Reversing Mill
- A Batch Annealing Facility
- A 4-high Temper Mill
- A Continuous Hot Dip Galvanizing Line
- A Cold Slitting and Recoiling Line
- A Packaging and Dispatching Section


Flat Steel Products

Hot Rolled Products

• Hot Rolled products include coils, plates and slit rings of commercial, drawing, structural, pressure vessel, API line pipe and high strength micro-alloyed steel grades.

• The thickness of these products ranges between 1.5 and 16 mm while the width ranges between 850 -1650 mm.

• Hot rolled products meet the dimensional and shape tolerances as per American, Japanese, European standards and other specifications.
 



Cold Rolled Products

• The Cold Rolled products include coils and slit rings of commercial, structural, high strength micro-alloyed and drawing steel grades.

• These products satisfy the requirements of manufacturing companies with respect to product strength, ductility and weldability.

• Drawing or similar qualities suitable for forming, bending and deep drawing are produced according to required specifications in order to meet the requirements of the building, white goods and other industries.

• Cold rolled products meet the dimensional and shape tolerances as per American, Japanese, European standards and other specifications.



Galvanized Products

• Galvanized products include coils and slit rings of commercial, lock forming, full hard, drawing and structural grades to meet customer requirements.

• These products are used in air-conditioning, refrigeration, pre-painted coating, panels and appliance industries.

• Galvanized products meet the dimensional and shape tolerances as per American, Japanese, European standards and other specifications.
